About Arthur Ritter...
Arthur Ritter led Ritter and
Ritter, Inc., an award winning graphic design firm in NYC, as president and
creative director for 30 years. Founded in 1968 by him, the firm moved to
Erwinna, Bucks County, PA and was dissolved in 1998. After that he has
been working as a design and art directorial consultant in communication and
visual arts.
Ritter, who was chairman of the
Advertising Design Department of Pratt/Phoenix School of Design in NY, early in
his career, also taught design at Parsons School of Design, New School
University, NYC. Educated in fine art at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY
and at NYU, he also took private painting lessons and did independent study in
Florence, Italy. He is a life member of the NY Art Directors Club and a
member of the NY Society of Illustrators. He is a member of the Board of
Directors of the Phillips Mill Community Association in New Hope, PA, and
currently co-chairs the Art Committee. Founded in 1756 as a community
center, the association evolved an arts program whose painters formed the
nucleus of the original New Hope Art colony.
A winner of numerous design
communication competitions, Ritter's award include the Best of Category of
two-color annual reports in the Printing Industries of America Show (7,600
entries); the NY Art Directors 71st National and 6th International competition
(16,000 entries) and a merit award for the Bicentennial in Print competition for
all work published about the bicentennial in the USA, sponsored by the
Washington, DC Art Directors Club. The award winning piece is now part of
the permanent collection of the Library of Congress.
Other awards include: Type
Directors Club of NY for Typographic Excellence; NY International Association of
Business Communicators Award for communication excellence; AGFA Achievement in
Design Award; Printing Industries of America merit award for annual reports; Art
Direction Magazine Creativity Award for Brookwood Child Care Annual Report
Profiles; Cabrini Medical Center Newsletter Dateline (10,300 entries);
Calligraphy Review Award from Art Direction Publishing; DESI Award from Graphic
Design, USA for the Ritter & Ritter Inc. logotype; finalist, International
Association for Business Communicators Gold Quill awards for annual reports,
finalist, Catalog Age Awards for the Macmillan Childrens Book Co. Catalog; AIGA
(American Institute of Graphic Arts) Textbook and Learning Show Award for
Macmillan Co. and AIGA 50 Best Books of the Year Award that included all books
published in the USA and Canada for that year.
Arthur Ritter was one of three
final judges in the 2003 Power of Print Award, "the Best of the Best",
a design and printing competition sponsored by the Graphic Arts Association of
PA and NJ and served again in the same capacity in the 2004 competition.
