About Arthur Ritter...

Arthur Ritter led Ritter and Ritter, Inc., an award winning graphic design firm in NYC, as president and creative director for 30 years.  Founded in 1968 by him, the firm moved to Erwinna, Bucks County, PA and was dissolved in 1998.  After that he has been working as a design and art directorial consultant in communication and visual arts.

Ritter, who was chairman of the Advertising Design Department of Pratt/Phoenix School of Design in NY, early in his career, also taught design at Parsons School of Design, New School University, NYC.  Educated in fine art at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY and at NYU, he also took private painting lessons and did independent study in Florence, Italy.  He is a life member of the NY Art Directors Club and a member of the NY Society of Illustrators.  He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Phillips Mill Community Association in New Hope, PA, and currently co-chairs the Art Committee.  Founded in 1756 as a community center, the association evolved an arts program whose painters formed the nucleus of the original New Hope Art colony.

A winner of numerous design communication competitions, Ritter's award include the Best of Category of two-color annual reports in the Printing Industries of America Show (7,600 entries); the NY Art Directors 71st National and 6th International competition (16,000 entries) and a merit award for the Bicentennial in Print competition for all work published about the bicentennial in the USA, sponsored by the Washington, DC Art Directors Club.  The award winning piece is now part of the permanent collection of the Library of Congress.

Other awards include:  Type Directors Club of NY for Typographic Excellence; NY International Association of Business Communicators Award for communication excellence; AGFA Achievement in Design Award; Printing Industries of America merit award for annual reports; Art Direction Magazine Creativity Award for Brookwood Child Care Annual Report Profiles; Cabrini Medical Center Newsletter Dateline (10,300 entries); Calligraphy Review Award from Art Direction Publishing; DESI Award from Graphic Design, USA for the Ritter & Ritter Inc. logotype; finalist, International Association for Business Communicators Gold Quill awards for annual reports, finalist, Catalog Age Awards for the Macmillan Childrens Book Co. Catalog; AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts) Textbook and Learning Show Award for Macmillan Co. and AIGA 50 Best Books of the Year Award that included all books published in the USA and Canada for that year.

Arthur Ritter was one of three final judges in the 2003 Power of Print Award, "the Best of the Best", a design and printing competition sponsored by the Graphic Arts Association of PA and NJ and served again in the same capacity in the 2004 competition.
